and long time contributors to the Hamilton high school coaching scene.  Each is a dedicated, innovative, and
outstanding member of their respective school board and the Hamilton community.
This year's five finalists for the 9th Annual Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence are:

Jobina D'Aloisio- Waterdown

  • first  time nominee and first  time finalist
  • ten years coaching, coached basketball, volleyball and soccer¬∑
  • Championships-  11 HWIAC, 10 SOSSA, 1 OFSAA gold, 1 OFSAA silver
  • admires coach: Allison McNeill, head coach of Canada's Senior Women's Basketball team. I have attended several clinics she has run with junior National team athletes and Ontario youth and am amazed at the way she teaches the game, the amount of passion she has for the game when she speaks and her ability to immediately identify an athlete's weakness, offering easy suggestions for improvement. I have observed her teams play on the World stage and enjoy watching the strategic and tactical approaches she uses.
  • best coaching moment:  While representing Canada as the head coach of the 3 on 3 girl's basketball team at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and representing my country- it was a dream I had since I started playing basketball at a young age. I have never been filled with such pride and emotion coaching a game I love for a country I am so proud to be a part of.

 Aldo D'Intino- Bishop Ryan

  • first time nominee and first time finalist
  • thirty five years coaching, coached football, track & field, and volleyball
  • 5 City football championships
  • admires coach: any and all of the assistant coaches I have had during my coaching career- too many to
name, but we work as a team, and I admire them as they are volunteers and give selflessly of their time
  • best coaching moment: coaching against my son and his team, and being brought to center field and
recognized for doing so...it was an emotional and memorable moment.

Patricia Jeffrey- Glendale

  • second time nominee and second time finalist
  • fifteen years coaching, coached boys and girls basketball, soccer, badminton and flag football
  • two City basketball championships, two  City basketball finalists
  • admires coach: John Wooden, Chris Critelli,Jim Weatherbee
  • best coaching moment: It would have to be this year's Division 2 Championship Basketball game. There are so many elements to the game that made it the ideal day: we played at McMaster - a perfect setting with the stands filled with staff, students and parents, my girls were excited and running on pure adrenaline and it had been 25 years since a Glendale Senior Girls Basketball team had won a championship. Our team went 13-1 on the season and the final went down to the wire against Orchard Park. My team played amazingly, they worked hard and left everything on the floor! I remember warning my girls at our first practice to be busy on November 10 (the day of the championship). We set this as our goal and the girls worked together as a team to make it happen.

Andrew Sergi- Cardinal Newman

  • first time nominee and first  time finalist
  • twenty  years coaching, has coached basketball, slowpitch and football
  • one City football championship, two City basketball championships
  • admires coach: Joe Raso and his Dad- Bruno Sergi
  • best coaching moment:  winning the Senior boys basketball championship this year- the last time CN won was 1989...I've been coaching since 2000- "it was a long road, to get to this winning spot!"

Chris Thomaidis- Sherwood

  • ¬∑three time nominee and two time finalist
  • 15 years coaching , has coached girls and boys basketball, golf, volleyball
  • 1  OFSAA medal, 2  SOSSA medals and a SOSAA qualifier
  • admires coach: Lisa Thomaidis his sister-Head basketball Coach Saskatchewan University and Assistant Coach Women's national basketball team
  • best coaching moment: Took the basketball team to Hawaii...6AM, found one of my players in the hot tub- so I asked him what he  was doing- and he replied-Sir, it's the only time in my life I'm ever going to be here so I'm going to make the most of it!
